The Porsche Museum has so many jems. I couldnt pick my favourite.
However this Polizei porsche 993 sparked a memory way back when I must have been barely into double digits. I had a white and green Polizei Beetle from Corgi , the blue light served to turn the front wheels so I could practice manouvering and big long powerslides. Something I would try to emulate for real later with occasionally expensive results.
The Police in Holland Germany and Belgium all enjoyed the benefits of having such great cars. Whilst here in the UK we equipped our guys with a Ford Granada or lumbering top heavy Range Rover. I can imagine a little envy…
This 993 had come back for restoration by the Porsche factory after years of service, it looked like brand spanking new. Note 44000 km and a tiptronic transmission.
Imagine this, what would our boys in blue be driving back in the late 50’s? maybe a ford Zephyr??? while in mainland Europe they had one of these. A 356 cabrio. No doubt there was some fun had chasing the bad guys.
I saw under the bonnet a huge dynamo, the size of a small lawn mower engine for keeping the radio and lights running at idle. Must have sapped an already meager power output but in that era a 356 was a rocket…… hope you like the pics. Cool???
My next post might be Porsche Prototypes or Porsche racers at the museum. There is so much to see. Go there.
