This SL is a pleasure to drive and all the better for having been updated with the 5 speed gearbox replacing the standard 4 speed. This SL could be taking you to dinner or to the Med in 60’s style.
Bought new by a Mr Mathews in Hampshire, it benefited from a comprehensive (and expensive) restoration in the late 80’s. As such, the car still looks great and that restoration has proven the test of time. There is now, 30 years later, a patina all of its own. The paint, though having a few chips and marks, presents well and is perfect in order to enjoy. Whilst a concours winning example costing twice as much looks perfect and gains more points, worrying about a spec of dirt or blemish spoils the fun which this SL offers every time you hop in.
The engine sounds and performs well having been rebuilt less than 20,000 miles ago. This is a car that shows the benefits of being driven often. Turn the key and enjoy.
Complete with both hard and soft top, a big history file, original books and showing just 5 owners in total in its documents. The last one, enjoyed it often, maintained it well and added an expensive audio system.
Our view is that this is a Grade 3, a classic suitable for driving without any major issues evident, showing signs of age and use…. a good solid and honest example with a nice colour combination, nice history, plenty of investment and good specification.
