Porsche 911 3.0 SC LHD ‘Car 47’ RSR Look 1979

Porsche 911 3.0 SC LHD ‘Car 47’ RSR Look 1979

It’s a one-off Porsche.

Travel back  to Le Mans 1973; two factory Martini Racing RSR’s were entered, numbers 46 and 47………this 911 is a homage to ‘Car 47’ driven by Claude Haldi and Reinhold Joest.

Built with great attention to detail, the result is a road legal, tarmac ripping, air-cooled rocketship. This is a 911 to take out early on a Sunday, head for the hills, or the track.

Sit behind the wheel, press the start button and the appeal becomes instantly clear. Slot the short shifter into first, lock on to the Prototipo and let rip. It’s going to thrill you and anyone that sees or hears it.

Commissioned by a deep-pocketed, classic racing enthusiast and competitor, the brief was to create a 911 with the power and handling of a race car…but for the road.

The bodyshell preparation and finish is exceptional. Carefully crafted with an authentic deeper and wider RSR wing on the rear and lightweight fenders. The body has been strengthened and carries front and rear strut braces.

The paintwork quality is top notch, as are the materials used. The finish is a pearlescent ‘Spectra Coat’ silver. Underneath is just as impressive as on top, the quality of build is evident throughout. It’s a faithful reproduction of the Martini livery, right down to the FIA scrutineering stickers.

It looks awesome and sounds even better!

The motor is amazing, and combined with the lightweight body, offers immediate response to a dyno tested 289 bhp; it revs freely and builds power cleanly.

The spec includes knife edged crankshaft, Carrillo rods, boat tailed crankcases, Wossner pistons, reworked ported and polished heads, high lift cams and a lightweight flywheel. Induction is with Jenvey electronic throttle bodies with standalone programmable DTA S80 ECU, sparks are handled with individual coil over plug pack ignition system and the exhaust has custom race headers. Rebel Racing engine mounts hold things firmly in place.

Up front is a centre fill fuel tank with underside protection. An Aeromotive competition integral pump eliminates the need for swirl pots and pumps. It has the correctly ducted RSR style front oil cooler with Aeroquip oil lines routed through the sills.

The handling and grip is really impressive. Gaz Gold adjustable coilover suspension has been fitted, with rose-jointed adjustable front and rear anti roll bars, poly bushes and rolling on gorgeous RSR style Fuchs by Braid in 15” x 11″ rear and 9″ front. The TB15 Michelins stick like the proverbial and the 6 pot front calipers and 4 pot rears with vented discs make sure you can slow this beast down.

The electrics have been completely revised, starting with a custom wiring harness, blade and relay modern fuse box, LED headlamps, heated front and rear screens.

Inside is a rear roll cage, bucket seats, quick release steering wheel, refurbished gauges with revised rev counter. Alcantara and leather covers the door, dash and seats.

The overall result is simply fabulous.

To recreate this build, to this standard, would take forever. Not to mention the blood, sweat, tears and huge costs. The hard work and big bills have already been dealt with, you can enjoy it now.
