Porsche 911 E 2.4 LHD Targa 1972
Porsche 911 E 2.4 LHD Targa 1972
If you are looking for a really sound and desirable classic 911 to drive and enjoy, look no further.
This gloss black 911 E has a lot going for it.
First, the colour really suits it, and being an E (mechanical fuel injection) makes it a great performer. Further more, finding a 1972 Targa in this condition is very unusual.
Unlike most, this 911 has not been restored and that really is the beauty of this example. It has not needed restoration and, with sensible care, will not need it.
Supplied new in August 1972 in Ohio, USA. Believed to have been with the original lady owner for its first 30 years, changing hands circa 2003, then coming to the UK in 2019 with a serious collector. Showing 56,697 miles, which judging by condition inside, outside and underneath, may well be true.
Matching numbers (engine and transmission). It includes the original handbook, service book, double keys plus red key and spare wheel. Correct Pirelli P6000 tyres on original Fuchs. It has been repainted just once from its original colour of Sepia brown to black.
The body is unusually nice, original in all the places these can have issues. It means the panel alignment is excellent, gaps are good, the brightwork and glass are great too.
The Targa roof has an excellent fit, but this is a car to be enjoyed with the top off, stowed in the front. That’s when the beauty of fresh air classic 911 motoring becomes obvious.
Inside the seats, dash and door panels are the original vinyl. The dash top is original with just a small crack between the speaker grille and the screen. The condition internally offers more evidence of a life lived indoors and little used. Carpets have been replaced with the correct, accurate type.
To drive it is impressive. A very responsive engine with that sweet 6 cylinder song when you get it going. Coupled with the five speed 915 transmission, it gives all the performance you would need to enjoy beautiful dry days and unforgettable journeys. Original specifications for the 2.4 E state 165 bhp and 137 mph top speed.
We would class this Targa as a strong Condition Grade 3, maybe a 4, supplied with our own comprehensive classic Porsche warranty.
