Overview

Top quality restoration and great upgrades, perfect for touring.

This 1959 356 was totally restored in 2011 with an open cheque book by marque experts.

A unique opportunity, bring your offers before the market gets busy in Spring.

Since restoration, the owner has proven the car with over 25, 000 miles, with tales of touring through Europe in comfort and reliability.

This is a 356 far above the norm.  It is not one of the dressed up auction cars, but a 356 that has been set up and refurbished and is ready to be enjoyed and driven wherever you wish. There are cheaper, but I am sure you know the saying….

During the well documented ground-up restoration the owner chose some very sensible improvements, adding performance and security. It has dual circuit brakes – discs on the front, drums on the rear, (original drums still available), adjustable shock absorbers, inertia reel seatbelts and 12v electrics with security battery isolator. The engine was uprated to 1,720cc, Zenith carburettors and a sport muffler exhaust. There is an electric button-operated carb primer on the dash underside. The dashboard also has a switch for the operation of the Marchal driving lamps.

As the car, like many survivors, was not a matching numbers example, although the engine is a correct 1600 Super from 1959. The owner took advantage of this, and the colour (originally white) was changed to Graphite metallic, matching the key Porsche press photograph for the model year. This was a Porsche colour available on special order from 1955 and the rich metallic paintwork perfectly accentuates the cars flowing body shape.

The interior was totally re-trimmed to complement the body colour, and also now has a new flat Nardi wood rimmed steering wheel. All instruments were fully restored by marque specialists North Hollywood Speedometer, including the electric clock, as originally listed on the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (as were the coco mats, radio antenna and Blaupunkt radio that now accompany the car.)

The headlights, dash lighting and rear lights, including a concealed high-level brake light, are all LED for improved visibility and safety, and a rear fog lamp has also been fitted.

There is a comprehensive pictorial record of the full restoration process, with full build details and specification. It has a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, plus the original Kardex with the name of the first owner in the USA.

This is a 356 that we know very well. Our own master restorer Graham Kidd, worked on this restoration prior to joining the Williams Crawford team and we have looked after the general maintenance on several occasions.

The car has been mostly used for Continental touring and benefits from a rich photographic inventory of its touring life and appearances at the 356 International Shows in Murano, Italy, Strasbourg in Germany and Cascais, near Lisbon, in Portugal; a great car in some equally great locations.

Residing in the South West of England, it has won prizes at all the car shows entered, including at Simply Porsche at Beaulieu and best in show at Cornwall’s top car show ‘Wadebridge Wheels’. When not in use, it has been garaged and stored in its own ventilated tent.

26, 378 miles since restoration.

This is an exceptional opportunity to own a very beautiful and capable 356.

Supplied with our own comprehensive classic Porsche warranty.
