Overview

1972 (Ölklappe) 911 T LHD coupe.

US delivered in July 1972, accompanied by a Porsche Letter of Origin confirming it is a matching numbers example (chassis, engine and transmission).

Immediately recognisable from the one-year-only, side oil filler; the chassis number suggests that this is a late-production ‘Ölklappe’ example.

As an American spec ‘T’ model, this 911 benefits from factory Mechanical Fuel Injection (MFI), the 2.4 litre making 140 bhp, 10 bhp more than its carburetted European cousins. It makes a difference to the way it drives; with a low and full torque curve, the smooth power delivery results in an easy-to-enjoy, classic Porsche.

The history folder reveals a good level of ongoing care and maintenance. It lived in Utah for many years before coming to the UK in 2004. The US seller is a known expert, and the subsequent UK keepers have continued the upkeep and investment.

Originally optioned with upgraded 15 inch Fuchs alloys (steel wheels were the standard), along with the ‘Equipment Package’, which includes rubber bumper mouldings, aluminium sill trims, a leather covered steering wheel, and ‘S’ instruments (with the dual oil temperature and pressure gauge).

With good brightwork, dashboard and instruments, it shows a high degree of originality and preservation, which is great to see. The body is notably good, it appears to have original panels on top and underneath. Historically repainted in its original light ivory (code 131), it benefits from an ‘S’ spec front bumper, plus very nice period-correct replica Recaro seats in black leather.

It drives so well, shifting smoothly up and down the 5-speed ‘box. The engine is eager, with a great soundtrack; a recent leak-down test carried out here at Williams Crawford confirming all is well.
