The dawn of a new era….

By the end of the millennium, the Porsche line up had been without a flagship Turbo model for a couple of years, and the devotees were getting restless. They were impatient for something new, and when Porsche finally launched the 996 Turbo, they gave the world a reward worth waiting for.

The new 996 Turbo offered an intoxicating mix of the finest engineering ingredients; combining the legendary twin turbo charged 3.6 litre Mezger motor to an exceptional chassis with a sure-footed, all wheel drive system. The result? 414 bhp, 560 Nm or torque, 190 mph top speed and 0-62 mph in 4.2 seconds. Its rivals were stunned!

It soon cemented a place in Supercar history and remains, to this day, as one of the greatest, all-year-round driving experiences money can buy.

The chassis number on this exceptionally low mileage example suggests it was within the first 150-or-so 996 Turbos to leave Stuttgart, and it also carries the ‘Introduction of New Model’ option 762 on the VIL.

Delivered in August 2000 to the Porsche main dealer in Cyprus, no doubt as a ‘show car’, it was immediately snapped up by an eager buyer in Northern Ireland just a month later. It remained in and around the same area for another 10+ years, with regular visits to OPC Dublin for servicing.

The mileage suggests it was used only on special days; when it came to the UK mainland in late 2014, it had a little over 25,000 miles recorded. It seems to have continued its ‘hobby car’ lifestyle until the present day, and despite covering so few miles, servicing and maintenance standards have been continued.

The most recent service was carried out here in the Williams Crawford workshop in May 2023, less than 150 miles ago.
