Overview
One of only 127 Turbo cabriolets made for the 2005 model year.
Significantly, this one has the additional X50 Performance Pack factory upgrade which, at the time, cost an extra £8,700 on top of your £100,000 order!
The 3.6 litre M96/70 E engine, a derivative of the legendary Mezger unit found in the 911 GT1 Le Mans racer and 996 GT3, received larger turbos together with uprated intercoolers and exhaust system as well as a strengthened transmission. The finished product gave an outright power increase from 420 to 450 bhp and an increase in boost pressure from 0.8 to 0.9 bar. Maximum torque increased by more than 10% to 620 Nm.
This is why an X50 is prized; it is not a simple chip upgrade, it is a full factory system resulting in a cabriolet that can reach 187 mph and crack 0-62 mph in just 4.6 seconds.
If you wanted a turbo charged 911 in 2005, a 996 was your only option; the 997 was already in production, but only in a naturally aspirated form.
This low mileage, 6 keeper example has the following specification;:
- Seal grey metallic with matching hardtop and a black cabriolet roof.
- 18 inch Turbo II alloys with full colour Porsche crest centre caps.
- Full black leather interior extending across the seats, centre console, dashboard, door trims and sun visors.
- Aluminium interior trim package highlighting the handbrake, gear selector, dash and instrument surround.
- Heated, electrically adjustable Comfort seats with memory function for the driver’s side and the Porsche crest embossed on to the head restraints.
- BOSE surround sound system.
- Xenon headlights with headlamp wash.
- Rear ParkAssist.
- Cruise control.
- Air conditioning.
The original PCM unit has been modernised with a Porsche Classic Communication Plus system featuring touchscreen operation, with 2D and 3D route guidance and DAB+, Apple CarPlay and Google Android. You can read more about this fabulous upgrade by clicking here.
Serviced in 2008 at 9,175 miles, 2011 at 17,631 miles, 2013 at 23,450 miles, 2015 at 26,712 miles, 2017 at 29,024 miles, 2020 at 33,863 miles and 2022 at 35,231 miles.
Accompanied by 2 keys, the original book pack with service book and manuals, plus a large folder with MOT certificates, invoices and receipts, documenting the continual care afforded to this Turbo regardless of the minimal miles covered.
This is a genuine drop-top Supercar, outrageously fast when required, but refined and docile enough to use everyday should you so wish. With the added security of all wheel drive it is suitable for summer and winter road trips.
It’s not much different now to when it first rolled out of the Stuttgart factory……apart of course, from the price, which nowadays sets it as one very good value Porsche!
