Charity Track Day
New or old, it’s when you drive your Porsche that the quality shines through and driving them keeps them in shape too.
Last week a group of us got together with a broad selection of Porsche and experience. The venue was Castle Combe racetrack in Wiltshire, and we were there provide exhilarating rides to individuals, and in turn raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance through their donations…and of course to have some fun along the way.
Richard drove his 997 GT3 Cup car and appeared to be one of the fastest on track, Al took his yellow GT4 Cayman, and between them probably did more laps than anyone else.
Adrian took his blue 1981 911 SC rally car, John a lovely ruby stone 964 race car, Steve his 964 Carrera 2 (a car Adrian first handled 25 years ago). We were also joined by Dave, a client of ours for over 15 years, who ran his highly modified GT3 996 for the first time. Also present was James, usually piloting a Porsche but this time aboard a real rarity, a 205 T16 road car. (We were really pleased to see this on track), then there was Dave in his very quick Escort RS.
There were plenty of other Porsche too, Christian in one of several Cayman GT4, various 996 including a 996 Targa, Boxster’s, Cayman, 997, classic 911…it really doesn’t matter if you have 140 hp or 440hp, the winner is the person that’s having the most fun.
Judging by the broad grin, David with the GT3 looked like he won on his first ever venture out on track, whilst the Wiltshire air ambulance also did well, to the tune of circa £6000 via all the donations.
Whilst top speed is not being measured, I do know that a well-driven Cayman GT4 might see over 140mph. Richard in his GT3, and Alan in his GT4, certainly appeared to be driving well.
A special thanks to Andy and Rupert who arranged the whole thing, and to the team at Castle Combe who are essential to the smooth running of the day.
