Customer Focus – Nick gets to grips with his Porsche

Nick Schön enjoys his day at Thruxton…

If you’re a driving enthusiast like Nick, it’s not uncommon to seek expert help to improve your skills and gain knowledge about your car. One great option is the skid pan experience at Thruxton, which provides an exciting and educational opportunity to learn how to control your car in slippery conditions.

This is what Nick had to say about the day…

“I’ve recently bought my ’81 911 SC from Williams Crawford, and it’s a beautiful Targa that spent most of its life in Texas. My former car was a 356 Speedster replica, so this was a doubling up of power and a very different thing, so I decided i needed some expert help with my driving skills.”

“This is even more true as I go on an annual month-long road trip, and this year I’m off to the Amalfi coast in Italy. The Thruxton skid-pan experience was a birthday gift from my partner (she was listening!) and I took my eldest son, George with me.”

“The skid pan is basically a roundabout of cones on a very smooth, very wet cement square…really slippery. After a brief explanation and demo by Colin, we were left to play for two hours, learning to just gently feel the car, maintain power and avoid sudden movements of the right foot. We were able to maintain a gently tail-out drift almost all the way round by the time we were done…a brilliant morning very well spent.”
