La Carrera Panamericana: Update
The Ultimate Test of Man and Machine
Right now, we have a car racing in Mexico tackling one of the toughest endurance road races in the world: the La Carrera Panamericana. Covering more than 4,000 km of demanding terrain, it’s a true test where outright speed must be matched by lasting performance and resilience. Getting to the sharp end of this race is no small feat.
From Hillclimbs to Mexico
Our Cayman Club Sport, owned and driven by Rob Kavanagh and co-driven by professional rally driver Ryan Champion, is flying the flag for our workshop. It’s been incredible to see how far Rob has come. It wasn’t long ago that we were encouraging and partnering with him in grassroots hillclimbs and sprints. As his experience grew, so did his ambition, and today that journey has taken him to one of the greatest road races on the planet.
We’ve been there every step of the way, advising, supporting, and helping to prepare the car. Seeing our name on that machine as it battles through Mexico is something we’re immensely proud of.
What a journey!
After a strong opening day, things took a turn on day two when Rob went off the road, damaging the subframe. True to the spirit of motorsport, the team refused to give up. The car was repaired and rebuilt overnight, and by the following morning, it was leading its class, with a 700+ hp GT2 Clubsport close on their heels.
Day three presented more challenges—stages one and two went smoothly, placing them 9th overall, but a gearbox issue hit midway through stage three, forcing them into limp mode at 70% power and with no ABS. Yet Rob and Ryan pushed through, finishing the stage 8th overall. On stage four, coolant problems forced multiple stops, and then the stage was cancelled due to a serious incident involving a Studebaker and several spectators. Thankfully, all parties are expected to recover.
On days four through seven, Rob and Ryan kept their foot on the gas. They battled tricky terrain, high speeds, and the relentless competition of faster, heavily modified cars. Despite these obstacles, they consistently gained ground, showcasing incredible skill, determination, and teamwork. Every day, their pace became more evident, and they proved that precision, strategy, and grit could match raw horsepower.
Upon conclusion of the La Carrera Panamericana 2025, Rob and Ryan had pushed their underdog car to a phenomenal final result: 15th overall out of 51 starters. Considering the sheer speed and power of the cars around them, it was a remarkable achievement. Williams Crawford couldn’t be more proud of their perseverance, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the rally, an inspiring testament to what determination and teamwork can accomplish.
