Mexico awaits this Porsche Cayman Club Sport.

Local enthusiast Rob Kavanagh is partnered with the highly experienced co-driver Ryan Champion and they definitely have their work cut out. It’s incredible to think, that in 2017, Rob had never competed. We encouraged him with the odd local hillclimb and what followed was greater and greater challenges. La Carrera Panamericana is right up there as regards motorsport challenges and we can’t tell you how proud we are to have one of our enthusiasts competing at this level.  We can’t wait to see our Williams Crawford livery flashing by at 165 mph+ on closed public roads somewhere 1000’s of miles from here.

Our guys in Motorsport, having made the car road legal, have recently been working hard and smart,  changing the suspension to increase travel, bump absorption and raise the ride height, running a purpose built race car on those roads is not ideal, a Cayenne would be a better choice for bumps, but we have to make the best of this setup, and hope that Ryan calls out the bumps and Rob slows for them, its the best we can do.  Other work includes custom fabricating skid plates to try to protect the underside, relocating electrical items to enable the carrying of a modest spare wheel,  making the fuel tank safe and legal for the legislation in place in Mexico and much more.

The Cayman Club Sport is quick, but looks modest in comparison to the specialised machinery that habitually wins the top spots in this event, we cannot do much about that performance deficit, but what we can do, is to build into our preparation as much in the way of preventative measures, and ‘get you home’ ideas in order to maximise the chances of this Porsche crossing the finish line. Everything from fire prevention, a spares package, through to on board tools even a roadside puncture repair kit and a toilet roll.  As the saying goes, ‘to finish first you must first finish’.

It’s really exciting, and we will be sharing more details as we get closer. You can follow the YOUTUBE build up to the event here, and our progress here on this newsletter.

Hasta la vista
