Richard Flies at Shelsey Walsh and Thrills the Crowd...

Last week we invited you to join us at Classic Nostalgia at Shelsey Walsh.

This week, we’re pleased to report it was everything we’d hoped for.

In glorious sunshine, and in front of a record-breaking crowd, Richard Williams took our Williams Crawford-built Group 4 Porsche 911 to his fastest run ever up the famous hill.

His final time?

An impressive 34.3 seconds.

If you’ve never visited Shelsey Walsh, it’s difficult to appreciate just how demanding the course really is. The hill may only be short, but it rewards commitment, precision and absolute confidence in both driver and machine.

The run begins with the launch from the start line before arriving almost immediately at a deceptively quick left-hand kink. The brave take it flat, but there’s very little room for error.

The road then heads towards an even faster left-hand bend. Here, there are no generous run-off areas—only barriers and railway sleepers waiting to punish any mistake. Richard knows this section well. A slight lift of the throttle keeps the car settled and tidy. Stay flat and you’ll either be heading for the barrier or scrubbing off speed with a correction.

From there it’s on to the famous Esses.

A tight uphill left followed by an easier right that is absolutely critical for the run to the finish. It was here that Richard found the extra time. Using the rise of the hill to his advantage, he was able to brake later, carry more speed into the corner and accelerate earlier towards the finish line.

The result was his quickest ascent of Shelsey Walsh to date.

Hill climbing might look straightforward from the spectator bank, but success demands nerve, precision and complete confidence in your machinery. Every component has to perform perfectly—from the engine and gearbox to the brakes, suspension and traction off the line.

Fortunately, our Group 4 911 did exactly what it was built to do.

Perhaps the most rewarding part of the weekend, however, wasn’t the stopwatch.

Richard was delighted to meet the dozens of Porsche enthusiasts who came over to say hello throughout the event. Whether chatting about classic 911s, discussing motorsport or simply sharing stories of Porsche ownership, it’s those conversations that remind us why we love what we do.

To everyone who stopped by, thank you. Your support, enthusiasm and friendship genuinely mean a great deal to all of us at Williams Crawford.

We’ll be out competing again soon and, as always, we’ll let you know where we’re heading well in advance. We’d love to see even more of you at the next event.

Until then, if we can help with anything Porsche related – whether buying, selling, servicing, restoring or simply offering advice, you know where to find us.

Passion for Porsche. Since 1991.
