In this week’s blog we look at two eras of classic 911, the ones we might have had as poster cars when we were kids.

Broadly, we have impact bumper examples (known nowadays as ‘G’ series), and the ‘long bonnet’ 911 era sometimes referred to as pre 73, or F series. 

The long bonnet was the original 911 form, during the course of 1964 to 1973 various subtle changes were made to the design, though the overall appearance on quick glance remained the same. Impact bumpers were introduced for the 1974 model year, and continued production until 1989 model year, by which time the 964 was already being offered. The 964 ‘overlapped’ G series hence why on the very last of the G series you can find a 964 windscreen and 964 front fenders. Our gorgeous grey cabrio is the end of the line, and is an example of these very late Carrera 3.2.

To confuse matters more, many cars are modified, it was commonplace to update long bonnet example to the appearance of the impact bumper cars, while nowadays the reverse is true. Then we have hot rods, modified, and resto mods – hand crafted versions of classic 911 that can feature a broad range of modifications or components. Each one unique, and we have a few here and they offer a different experience.
