There’s always a story

This week a car arrived that triggered a memory for me.

For over 30 years I have been handling Porsche, and therefore I’ve met loads of people that own or would like to own Porsche. Whilst nowadays the majority of customers are handled by the team here, one thread that remains consistent is that the majority of you, our customers or supporters, who each have a reason they love Porsche, and often that reason goes way back to childhood memories.

The story behind them is always fascinating.

The story here was triggered by this 964 Carrera 2. You will notice its left-hand drive. I started handling Porsche in 1991 as Adrian Crawford Specialist cars. In the mid 90’s I was busy importing left hand drive Porsche, typically 3.0, 3.2 and 964 from Germany, and this Carrera 2 was one such car.

In fact, you can see in the history that I imported it in the heyday…1999. At that time few were importing, and the exchange rate was such that I could buy absolutely first class 911 at a big discount on right-hand drive.

This one would have come in, been checked and inspected, and MOT’d by Richard Williams. Richard handled most of my Porsche preparation for circa 20 years, running his own service garage just one mile from me. That is how he came to have such great knowledge about the cars. 10 years ago, he and I joined forces as Williams Crawford.

Back to the car. This one was a standout example, Swedish delivered new and very rare in that it was without a sunroof. I sold it to an exceptionally fussy motoring photographer. Then it came back and was enjoyed by an equally fussy customer in Cornwall (Hi Mark). Subsequently, it passed through my hands several more times. And now, 25 years later is back with us looking for a new home.

Once more Richard Williams arranged for the inspection, and though his hands won’t be soiled, he will arrange for the preparation before she goes to a new owner.

The individuals that have enjoyed the privilege of this (very special) 964 will remember it, it will have added to their own story, their own life.

We too have a story with this Porsche spanning 25 years. I think I still have the original advert…probably for about £18000.

Times have changed, values have changed, the memories remain and the attractiveness of owning a Porsche…that remains. How can we help you?
