Walkabout Wednesday: A Half-Price Porsche?

This week’s Walkabout Wednesday starts with a simple question…
A half price Porsche?

Adrian is joined by Beth in the showroom to find out, and as ever, the answer is far more interesting than you might expect.

Half-Price but the full experience.

It’s always been the case with a good Porsche, that even at ten or twenty plus years old, really good examples, properly maintained and lovingly cared for can offer almost exactly the same experience as these cars gave the very first owner.

Although there will be a few miles on the odometer, these cars respond well to being used, and the performance, drive and appearance can defy the age or mileage. Reliability rarely suffers, the performance, feel, handling and driving pleasure remain intact.

And so here, with this particular example, you may just have hit the jackpot.

Many Porsche models are all very much not half price these days. All air cool classics are considerably more valuable today than when new, many of the low volume modenr Porsche are near new price or beyond, which is why when Beth showed me this 991 Turbo S, the flagship of the range, and said its half new price….my interest was sparked.

A Turbo S like this would have set you back around £140,000 before options. Fast-forward to today, and you’re looking at a car that delivers truly modern supercar performance for around half that figure.

What makes it so special?

  • The most amazing driving experience with performance to spare.
  • Carbon ceramic brakes – lighter, cleaner, durable and phenomenal.
  • Quality A beautifully finished interior with carbon inlays and contrast stitching
  • Sport Chrono, paddle shift PDK, and that unmistakable Turbo S presence
  • Everyday usability wrapped up in serious performance

As Adrian points out, this is the kind of Porsche you could drive every day – even if this particular example has clearly lived a very gentle life.

Add in usable storage front and by folding the rear seats, and the ability to comfortably head off to the south of France, it’s easy to see why this might be one of the most compelling modern Porsches you can buy right now.

Half the Price, Pure Fun: The 718 Cayman

But Walkabout Wednesday doesn’t stop there.

If spending half the Turbo S money sounds more appealing, Beth introduces a 2020 718 Cayman, one that delivers exactly what Porsche does best: balance, engagement and everyday enjoyment.

With instant power delivery, PDK, and a chassis that feels just as happy on the road as it does on track, the 718 Cayman proves that you don’t need supercar money to get a truly rewarding Porsche experience.

As Adrian sums it up, this is half the price spent purely on fun – and there’s a lot to be said for that.

And for Nearly Double…

To finish, there’s a glimpse into the other end of the spectrum: a 993-era car that looks every inch like an RS. It’s not quite ready for sale yet, but with a few finishing touches planned, it’s one to keep an eye on. Consider this your early preview.

Watch the Full Walkaround

This episode is a perfect reminder that Porsche ownership isn’t one-size-fits-all. Whether you’re looking for modern Turbo performance, mid-engine driving purity, or air-cooled magic, there’s a Porsche – and a price point – that makes sense.

Watch this week’s Walkabout Wednesday video to see the cars up close and hear Adrian and Beth talk through what makes each one special.
