Werrington Hill Climb – A Brilliant Bank Holiday Weekend
Saturday 2nd May at Werrington Hill Climb delivered exactly what the forecast promised….a dry start before the heavens opened in the afternoon, adding that extra layer of challenge that makes hill climbing such a thrilling and unpredictable motorsport discipline.
As always, the variety of machinery on display was incredible. From standard road-going cars to purpose-built single-seater hill climb monsters, there was something for everyone and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day for competitors and spectators alike.
For our Director, Richard Williams, Werrington is an event that has always held special memories. Having grown up locally and attended the event for many years, it’s one he has always loved being involved with, so to once again compete, while also sponsoring the event alongside Plymouth Motor Club, makes the weekend even more rewarding.
Competing in the Rally Car class, Richard secured an impressive 2nd place in his Group 4 Porsche 911, finishing behind local legend Steve Furzeland in his Subaru Impreza WRC after a fantastic day of competition.
One of the best things about events like Werrington is just how accessible grassroots motorsport can be…loading up the car, a camping chair and an umbrella, then heading 25 minutes down the road for a brilliant day of motorsport is hard to beat.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped make the weekend happen – from Plymouth Motor Club, the organisers, marshals and volunteers, through to the competitors, sponsors and spectators who continue to support events like this year after year. Grassroots motorsport simply wouldn’t exist without the passion, dedication and time given by so many people behind the scenes.
If you’ve ever thought about getting involved in motorsport, events like Werrington are the perfect place to start. Feel free to get in touch, we’d be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
