Cobra 427 recreation, professionally built by Absolute Performance in 2008.

Absolute Performance was the brainchild of former Formula 1 engineer, Chris Symons. He founded the company in 2004, with the aim of building the ultimate 427 Cobra replicas. The cars were supplied exclusively via Sovereign Cars of Whitchurch, with each one hand-built to the owner’s specification.

Meticulously reproduced with the following specification:

• AK Sports Cars chassis and glass fibre body.
• Chevrolet 350 (5.7 litre) V8 engine
• Holley fuel injection system.
• Mallory electronic ignition.
• Twin, big bore 4-into-1 chrome side exhausts (with catalytic convertors).
• Edelbrock chrome engine fittings.
• Samco blue hoses.
• Alloy radiator.
• Fully lined, stainless steel engine bay with padded engine blanket.
• Tremec TK500 5 speed gearbox.
• Remote clutch servo.
• Jaguar limited slip diff.
• Power steering with a high ratio rack.
• 17 inch Halibrand style alloys with spinners.

In various guises, British manufacturers, AC, had been producing a small volume of specialist vehicles since as early as 1904. The AC Ace 2-seater roadster was introduced in 1953, but it was only when American racing legend, Caroll Shelby, approached AC in 1961 with a request for a V8 up front, that the legendary Cobra Mk I was born. The ‘390’ followed, and then, the Mk III ‘427’.
