Peugeot 205 GTi SE 1.9 3-door 1990

Fancy, fabulous and French!

From an era when a hot hatch was the only car to be seen in, the Peugeot 205 GTi proved to be a big hit in a tough market.

Lightweight, responsive, and famously fun to drive, this 1990 3-door example is a pre-cat 1.9 litre, with power steering and disc brakes all round.

Originally supplied by Peugeot main dealers, the Norwich Motor Company in March 1990, this is an ‘SE’ special edition model, one of the 300 1.9 litre cars supplied in Miami blue metallic.

Equipment on the SE included a sliding sunroof, electric front windows, central locking, a Clarion radio/cassette (which has since been replaced, but is included with the car), and a grey leather interior with contoured front sports seats.

Accompanied by a large history file, with original book pack and manuals, the service book shows many main dealer service stamps. Even the original sales invoice is with the car, the owner speccing additional mud flaps and decals.

Fans of the iconic French pocket-rocket may well recognise this particular car; previously owned by well-known motoring journalist, Andrew Frankel, it has been the cover star of both Octane and Autocar magazines.

Frankel owned it for 8 years until the current owner, number 6, purchased it for his own collection in 2020. Since then, it has seen a huge level of further investment (in excess of £8,000), including an extensive engine build with new cambelt and clutch, full suspension and brake overhaul, replacement exhaust and tyres, plus full paint correction and Feynlab ceramic coating.
