Porsche 987 (Gen II) Boxster Spyder PDK 2011

One of the most desirable Boxsters Porsche has ever built.

In 2010, Porsche took the concept of the highly successful Boxster to the next level – with more power, less weight, and a sharpened chassis, the Boxster Spyder was born and, alongside its Cayman R stablemate, soon became recognised as the driver’s choice of the second generation 987.

Produced in small numbers, worldwide production amounted to around 1,900 cars, with an estimated 230-250 RHD examples reaching the UK – making the Boxster Spyder one of the rarer modern Porsche road cars.

Its naturally aspirated 3.4 litre flat-six received a factory increase to 320 hp and 370 Nm of torque, with power sent to the rear wheels through either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed PDK transmission, together with a limited slip differential.

This low mileage example was delivered by OPC Reading in August 2011 to the first of five keepers and benefits from a full Official Porsche Centre service history. The service book has stamps in 2013 at 8,133 miles, 2015 at 12,239 miles, 2017 at 16,673 miles, 2019 at 17,574 miles, 2021 at 19,289 miles, 2023 at 20,388 miles and 2025 at 21,408 miles.

One of the Spyder’s defining features is, of course, its wonderfully simple manual roof. It takes a little more involvement than pressing a button, but that’s all part of the unique experience. Once removed and stowed away, the distinctive Speedster-style lightweight rear bodywork is fully revealed, giving the Spyder a shape quite unlike any other 987.

The combination of low production numbers, naturally aspirated flat-six power and a genuinely distinctive driving experience has made the 987 Spyder increasingly sought after. Finding one is never easy; finding a low-mileage example with continuous Official Porsche Centre history is harder still.
