Are these Porsche 993 the best value classic Porsche today?

You must have seen that in the last ten years that the values of classic Porsche have risen. Some more than others. Although there have been times when prices ease a little, the general trend is upwards.

What dictates price? It’s supply and demand. I have been dealing with Porsche for over 3 decades, and at any given time, even when prices are shooting up, there are some models that appear good value. They always adjust.

Fashion and usage change over time, and here, the 993 convertibles I feature seem to me to make a lot of sense. Whilst labour and parts costs create ever higher costs of restorations, these 993 look ever more appealing.

Having a Tesla that does 0-60 in 4 seconds is one thing, but we are all using the same roads and encounter the same conditions, and that’s where these 993 really score well. They are a pleasure to drive at any speed, even when following a whole line of ordinary cars…the 993 feels a delight.

You get such a great connection to driving, but without driving becoming difficult. Superb vision through the wide screen and slender pillars, the controls, something that Porsche are especially good at, are weighted and respond just perfectly to your touch. Then there’s the sound, that lovely flat six gently pushing you ever forward. They feel easy, and strong.

The open road is something else. Having driven across Europe many times in a 993, and often at a good pace, I can personally guarantee that they are great places to be. Driving to Paris in December, or Madrid in July.  Whilst air travel does get you there, you can be in the tunnel or on the ferry, making your own progress, whilst others que in endless lines at Gatwick. You can see the world reveal itself, stop when you like, and head for the horizon. It’s something very special.

Although classed as a classic, they hardly feel it. As you will know the 993 was the last of the air-cooled Porsche, with over 30 years of production and competition development included in every car. Still manufactured to a quality rather than a price. At 170 mph, or in torrential rain, or winding through the Alps you will recognise quality engineering.

The two 993 featured here are for now, both less than 50k. That situation will not be forever. Interest in these ‘newer’ Porsche always increase, but if you wish to drive for pleasure, for the feeling, and without the need for the very latest model, then a 993 may well be what you need in your life.

Park one outside your favourite restaurant, you are sure to turn back and admire it. You are guaranteed to get appreciation from others, you are sure to love the way it makes you feel.

The two featured here, can be used and enjoyed immediately, whilst still relatively affordable.

Even at this age, we still offer our own warranty with them, which should give you some idea of our level of confidence in the quality and durability of 993. We have also partnered with Charles and Dean for funding our cars, making ownership surprisingly affordable.

Typically, customers choose a scheme where they put down a deposit, have a final ‘balloon’ payment at the end of the term, along with small monthly payments. Call and we can have an informal chat about the options available. A classic 993 is within the grasp of most of us. We also consider part exchange to make these special cars even more accessible.

Catch them whilst you can, don’t let yourself regret it.
