Adrian dives In the deep end with his Porsche for rally Costa Brava.

Starting on the 13th march is the first round of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship and Adrian and his Co-driver Glyn Thomas will be there in the 911 SC. The event is over 3 days all tarmac, mostly in the hills above Girona.

Josh has been going through the car from one end to the other. There is lots of detail involved, not only are we thinking about how to maximise performance…but also how to maximise reliability, when something goes wrong…it’s a long way from home.

Competition will come from Europeans in Group 4 911, Group 4 Escorts, Asconas, 131 Fiats etc. Those can have circa 300 hp, Adrian will be doing his best in his largely standard 204 hp Group 3 911.

To stay within our legal specification there is little more we can do to the motor, but making sure the engine is at its optimum, accurate valve timing, valve clearances, fuel injectors, fuel pressure and ignition timing all make their difference.

Suspension is standard spec with Bilstein Nürburgring shock absorbers and stiffer bushes replacing rubber. Brakes are standard, but with Ferodo DS UNO pads and race fluid. The ride height, fore/aft rake, corner weights and the alignment have all been adjusted.

Tyres are Michelin TB5 and TB15 (damp). We have had Minilite make custom offsets allowing us to squeeze a massive tyre under a standard arch. For wet weather we are on 7” Cookie cutters all round…light and strong.

On the event, Josh will be servicing the 911, often on the side of the road, usually under time pressure. It is a lot of work for Josh but as Adrian says, if Josh says it’s good to go, he has 100% trust.

Watch out for regular updates that Adrian will provide from the 9th onwards.

If you are in the area…. come and say hello!
