Behind the Scenes on Dartmoor – Two Iconic Porsches Under the Spotlight.

There are worse ways to spend a day than driving two iconic Porsches across Dartmoor.

This week, we joined the team from Tide Creative Group to film content for a brand-new YouTube series called Under the Spotlight. The aim is simple: to take a closer look at some truly special cars and share what makes them so enjoyable to own and drive.

The team at Tide Media Studio really did bend over backwards to capture these cars at their very best. The locations were stunning, the weather played its part and, judging by some of the footage we’ve already seen, you’re in for a real treat.

My role? Thankfully, it wasn’t too demanding…

I simply had to drive them!

A 1967 Porsche 911 S (SWB)

The first car was an early short-wheelbase 911 S.

Every time I drive one of these, I’m reminded why they have become so revered amongst Porsche enthusiasts.

There’s something wonderfully honest about the way it drives. It feels light, responsive and alive beneath you. The faster you become accustomed to it, the more confidence it gives back.

The flat-six encourages you to keep pressing on, rewarding every gear change with that unmistakable air-cooled soundtrack. It isn’t about outright speed by modern standards, it’s about involvement.

It’s a car that makes every mile memorable

The 550 Spyder Recreation

Then there was the 550.

Yes, it’s a beautifully built recreation, but don’t underestimate the experience.

With a power-to-weight ratio that’s remarkably similar to a modern Cayman GT4, combined with tyres that seem barely wider than a bicycle’s, it delivers an experience that’s completely different to anything on sale today.

Every input matters.

The steering talks to you constantly, the chassis feels alive and, because you’re sitting so low to the ground, even modest speeds feel exciting.

To sum it up in three words?

Fun. Fun. Fun.

Why We Love Days Like This

Working with Porsche every day is a privilege.

Sometimes we’re inspecting them, sometimes preparing them, sometimes sourcing them for clients around the world.

Then there are days like this, when we simply get to enjoy what Porsche has been creating for over seventy years.

That’s something we’re never likely to take for granted.
